Beyond EPiC: Scientists Launch Global Data Ecosystem to Decarbonize the Built Environment
MELBOURNE, AU – February 3, 2026 – Beyond EPiC, a research-led digital platform originating from the University of Melbourne, today announced the full-scale launch of its global environmental data ecosystem. Moving beyond simple carbon calculators, the platform provides organizations with proprietary, peer-reviewed datasets designed to measure and improve environmental performance across the entire lifecycle of buildings and infrastructure.
"Our mission is to replace 'appearance' with 'accountability,'" says the Beyond EPiC leadership team. "For too long, sustainability in the built environment has relied on fragmented data. We are providing a unified, scientifically rigorous evidence base that helps professionals make decisions that actually respect our planetary boundaries."
Beyond EPiC differentiates itself through its academic foundation and end-to-end integration:
Proprietary Hybrid-LCA Data: Unlike generic databases, Beyond EPiC uses a unique hybrid Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) method built on 30 years of research to reveal the true ecological footprint of materials and assemblies.
The EPiC Explorer (Launching 2026): A flagship digital tool that translates complex scientific research into clear, actionable insights for architects, engineers, and urban planners.
Global Reach, Local Relevance: Already applied in over 60 countries, the platform adapts to local construction realities while maintaining international scientific consistency.
